Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Board of Investments of the Philippines, in cooperation with the Nordic Chamber of Commerce in Manila, Finland-Asean Trade Association and Helsinki Region Chamber of Commerce is organizing a networking event on 22.5.
Speakers will give an update of the current economic and political developments and will tell about the business opportunities for Finnish companies. Participants will also have the opportunity to hear which companies are active in the Philippines and in which business areas.

The Philippine economy has enjoyed an average annual GDP growth rate of over 6% since 2010, hitting 6.8% in 2016. With an English-speaking population of 100+ million, the Philippines is the 12th most populous nation, and the third largest English-speaking country in the world. The growing Philippine economy provides opportunities for Finnish companies in areas, such as:

ICT:
-Growing infrastructure sector offers opportunities for companies developing e.g. mapping and project monitoring systems
-Cyber security has been a hot topic in the country after a few major breaches. Many banks as well as government organizations and public utility companies are looking into enhancing their security
-Growing e-commerce sector has created a demand for platforms and e-payment solutions

Healthcare:
-New major hospital projects create opportunities on a wide scale from medical equipment and devices and to waste and linen treatment
-Philippines renewed their classification system which led to many hospitals losing their hospital status. To upgrade their status, they need to build operating and emergency rooms to their facilities.
-Rapid growth of medical tourism has created demand for high-end equipment and facilities
-Health IT and telemedicine solutions – how to provide healthcare services in remote islands and provincial areas

Cleantech & Renewable Energy:
-Shortage of electricity in city areas and in the countryside, shortcomings of waste management systems and in processing of municipal wastes and agricultural residues, and growth of energy-intensive cement industries create opportunities for Finnish suppliers
-plantations of fast-growing biomass for energy or biofuel production
-technical consultancy and even training in waste management and utilisation of municipal and other waste

Construction & Infrastructure:
-USD 170 billion infrastructure spending planned during the current administration in 2016-2022
-Opportunities for equipment suppliers and engineering knowhow in the construction of roads, highways, bridges, airports, seaports, tunnels
