UAE and Finland share ‘mirror image visions’ in innovation

Finnish excellence in knowledge and know-how was matched with the visionary business opportunities in the UAE market in a high-level business forum in Helsinki. Almost ninety delegates, one third from the United Arab Emirates attended the forum. New business platforms and initiatives were introduced to enhance trade. The Finnish innovation ecosystem is gaining traction in the UAE. The forum was organized by the Gulfpoint, an expert in the UAE market entry and trade, and Advion Group that accelerates trade from Finland.

Major UAE organizations such as DP World, Etisalat, Road and Transport Authority (RTA), Masdar, Dubai Water and Electricity Authority (DEWA), Emirates National Bank and EXPO 2020 were presenting at the Forum. Twenty Finnish corporations and SME’s showcased their offering matching the UAE demand. In addition Dubai Chamber, Finncham, Tekes and Technology Industries (TT) presented at the event moderated by Finpro, the Finnish government trade promotion body.  The Keynote was delivered by H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Director General and CEO of Adnoc, also Chairman of Masdar and Abu Dhabi Ports. He reflected the innovation visions of the two countries to be ‘mirror images’.

’The UAE is a lucrative market to Finland as it spearheads in the development and deployment of future technologies, in accordance with the country’s future strategies. EXPO 2020 accelerates the implementation of these vision. Finland has a huge offering of world class solutions for energy efficiency, waste and water management and all things ‘smart’ in societies. We were glad but not surprised that they accepted invitation to attend the forum,’ says Jaana Räsänen-Pentti, Partner at the Gulfpoint and Honorary Chairman of the Finnish Business Council in the UAE.

’The Finnish education has a fantastic reputation in the UAE and the pull effect should be capitalized while the opportunity and demand is there. Finland is well known for consistently high quality and reliable delivery. Unfortunately we Finns are still not very good at utilizing all market opportunities, says Katia Al-Kaisi, a Partner at the Gulfpoint. She also calls for consistency and persistency in trade promotion from the Finnish government.
