Colombia Day was held in Helsinki on 12th June 2019. Mr Aleksis Kajava, Vice Chair of the Finnish Latin American Business Council chaired the event which was co-organized by Business Finland, Finnish-Latin American Business Council, Procolombia and the Embassy of Colombia in Finland.
Colombia is the 32nd largest economy in the world and 4th in the Latin America. The Colombian economy is the path of recovery and will expand by about 3 – 5 per cent in 2019 – 2020.
Being part of the OECD countries means that public institutions in Colombia will meet standards of the developed world more confidence for investors. FDI has been largely driven by non-mining sectors over the last 3 years. The USA, the UK, Spain, Switzerland and Mexico are the top investing countries in Colombia. Free Trade Zones Offer for enterprises reduces income tax and VAT exemptions and allow access to local markets.
Business opportunities can be found in energy sector, agribusiness, metal working and other businesses, chemical and life sciences and in service sector (IT, BPO, ITO, Shared Services, Apps), infrastructure, real estate and retail.
Mr Aleksis Kajava, Regional Director, Latin America and Caribbean presented Vaisala’s activities in Colombia as an example of a Finnish company operating the Colombian market.
