Among our various autumn activities, we are proud to host a FREE screening of the documentary How

to Build a Library (2025) by Christopher King and Maia Lekow. The film documents author Shiro

Koinange and publisher Angela Wachuka renovating The MacMillan Library, a facility originally opened

in 1931 solely for white visitors.

The documentary will be shown on Tuesday, 29th September, from 17:00 to 20:00 at Kino Regina, 1st

Floor, Oodi Library, Helsinki. Following the screening, join us for an interactive panel discussion and Q&A — presented in partnership with Helsinki Central Library Oodi, Kenyan Community Network Finland and the Finnish-African Society.

Our work centres on reading, community spaces like public libraries, and bringing diverse literature to our

audience, so we’re thrilled to bring this documentary to Oodi Library and hope you can join us there in

person.
