What: Secure Europe – Dream or Reality? Breakfast event
When: February 9th, 2023, at 8am to 10am
Where: British Embassy, Itäinen Puistotie 17, Helsinki

A couple of years ago an armed conflict in Europe was not on the list when we thought about future challenges in Europe. Now the war in Ukraine has thrown us and the western democracies back to the time of iron curtains and energy rationing.

Countries have different policies for managing security and defence issues. Finland has chosen to apply for membership in NATO, but the process is still pending.

The consequences of the war can also be seen in everyday life and this creates major uncertainties for consumers and companies. A downward spiral in the economy is not easy to break once it starts.

Can the conflict be ended? How will the conflict change the geopolitics in Europe? What is happening outside Europe? When will Finland be a member of NATO?

Join us to hear security and defence experts sharing their views on the current issues on February 9th at 8am at the British Embassy. Director General Janne Kuusela from the Finnish Ministry of Defence will present current security issues from a Finnish perspective. A UK perspective to these issues will be then given by Wing Commander Stephen Boyle. Opening remarks will be given by HMA Theresa Bubbear. A British breakfast will be provided to those attending the event.

You may register to the event here. Please register by January 26th.

If you are unable to attend yourself, feel free to forward this invitation to a relevant person in your organization.
