Finland-South East Asia Business Association: Introducing Member Companies – ADCQ Ltd Oy
What kind of commercial activities does your company have in Southeast Asian countries?
I have no operations in any Southeast Asian countries. But I myself have been in Indo-China in 1997–2000 in Yunnan Province in Southern China in the Pulp Mill project (Yunnan Pulp & Paper Mill) and in Guangzhou at a recycled paper mill as a special expert.
In which country(s) do you operate?
I currently work in Finland, Germany and Sweden. As a consultant, quality expert and auditor for main contractors.
Current situation:
In Helsinki, Finland, as a welding engineer for all power plants and heating plants, where I am responsible for making repair and modification plans based on the Finnish Pressure Act, both the European (PED) Pressure Equipment Directive and EN standards, as well as the implementation of compliances.
Previously:
In Germany, in a Quality Assurance / Quality Control Engineering position in a large biorefinery project, representing UPM in the EPC project. In this position, I also audited the contractors coming to the project from Poland, Croatia, Portugal and Germany, among others.
In Sweden, Quality Control and Technical Advisor in Timrå in Andritz’s fiber line efficiency project. This was the Wood handling area, where a new wood chipper installation, piping, bark storage system and a chip conveyor system for the new digester were built.
In Finland:
The EPCM project had Quality Control and Technical Advisor Worley as a representative of AUS, the project was a German BASF factory in Harjavalta that manufactures semi-finished products for battery materials for electric cars.
In China:
Ahlström’s representative as a site manager, mechanical and piping installation supervisor, later also as an installation supervisor of field instrumentation, and finally as a commissioner as a Baby Setter, following the new pulp mill run by the owner, Yunnan Pulp & Paper Mill. This was, so to speak, a turnkey type of project from 1997 to 2000.
What advice would you like to give to a Finnish company that is planning to enter the Southeast Asian market?
I don’t have any advice on this because I’m not in the selfish Southeast Asian market.
Share one of the success stories your business has experienced in the Southeast Asian country?
Unfortunately, my company didn’t. I haven’t experienced anything in Southeast Asia yet, but I have started and built my personal success story in Indo-China in Yunnan Province and Guangzhou in China. There I was on a long project where I got to experience the entire factory building project from start to finish in all disciplines.
I also had the opportunity to work as an instructor at the factory as well as geography knowledge in a local school about Europe and Finland.
How do you see the role of Southeast Asian countries in your activities over the next five years?
My company and I have seen the potential in Southeast Asia since 1997. This was confirmed in the 2000s when I worked at Neste as Quality Control for pipelines, where I got a good feel and information about the potential of Asians.
When I worked as a trainer / teacher, we did training export in Team Finland, where I worked as a Welding Expert in vocational skills competitions. These competitions, which developed the promotion of professional skills, were also international exports of educational information and methods. I was in Russia in St. Petersburg to teach welding technology at the Polytechnic Institute and to talk about the Finnish education system.
Your motto when doing business in Southeast Asian countries?
Such a memory is that it was difficult to start, but with an open mind and respecting the culture, I got off to a good start. That is perhaps how Carpe Diem could be summed up, i.e. live in the moment and listen to the customer.
The most important reason why you want to belong to the Finnish and Southeast Asian Business Association?
The most important reason is to find potential partners with whom I can network and offer my services, and if I happen to get some growth for the company.
