Hong Kong continues to demonstrate why it remains one of the world’s most reliable and competitive international business hubs. The city combines a rules-based multilateral trading environment, a tariff-free regime, a stable and transparent legal system, and the capabilities of a leading global financial centre. These core strengths, together with Hong Kong’s role as a connector between mainland China, ASEAN, and global markets, offer Nordic companies a strategic platform for long-term expansion in Asia.

Recent policy developments reinforce this position. Since 2023, more than 1,440 mainland and overseas enterprises have established or expanded their operations in Hong Kong through Invest Hong Kong. These investments bring significant capital and new jobs, while new policy packages covering land, taxation, and financial incentives aim to attract high-potential industries and technology firms to the Northern Metropolis, Hong Kong’s future innovation and growth corridor. For Nordic companies, this creates a practical entry point into one of the world’s fastest-developing innovation clusters.

Hong Kong’s gateway role is also strengthened through CEPA, which provides preferential access to the mainland market for Hong Kong based firms, including overseas companies operating from the city. The expansion of economic and trade offices worldwide, alongside the networks of HKTDC and Invest Hong Kong, ensures that Nordic firms have direct access to partners, distributors, and investors across China, ASEAN, and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Digitalisation, green finance, cross-border e-commerce, and creative industries are emerging as major pillars of Hong Kong’s next growth cycle. Programmes such as the Economic and Trade Express, the extended Hong Kong Shopping Festival in the mainland and ASEAN markets, and new one-stop services for SMEs and startups offer Nordic innovators real pathways to global customers and scalable growth. These developments align closely with Nordic strengths in sustainability, clean technologies, advanced digital services, design, and circular-economy solutions.

As Hong Kong continues to evolve into a broader hub for technology, aviation, culture, sports, and wellness, it amplifies opportunities for Nordic brands and companies seeking visibility, partnerships, and long-term presence in Asia.

In a changing global landscape, trusted cooperation matters more than ever. Hong Kong’s stability, competitiveness, and international outlook continue to create meaningful opportunities for businesses from Finland and the wider Nordic region. The Finland–Hong Kong Business Association will continue strengthening these connections and supporting Nordic enterprises in unlocking the full potential of Hong Kong and the Asia-Pacific market.
