Ančs is a Latvian-born cellist who studies at Sibelius Academy with cellist Martti Rousi. He is now focusing on a duo project with pianist Marta Balode with whom he is touring in some of Latvia’s most beautiful chamber music venues with their concerts. Their programme does not only consist of classical music, but they also perform some of Ančs’ original compositions. Below is the music video for a composition called Lietus – “rain” in Latvian and it is a nostalgic, atmospheric piece about the moment when the sun starts to shine between clouds during rain.

Another of Ančs’ projects, an experimental cello rock band Chairmen, has a more contemporary feel. The band consists of two electric cellos and drums which together perform original material from their recently released debut album. Currently they performing both in Latvia and Finland while they are working on their second album set to be released at the end of this year.
