Interview with H.E Mr. Mohammad Hayatee, Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to the Kingdom of Sweden, Kingdom of Denmark and Republic of Finland

1. How would you describe the current state of bilateral relations between Kuwait and Finland, and what new opportunities for cooperation do you see emerging in the coming years?
Kuwait and Finland enjoy friendly and constructive bilateral relations grounded in mutual respect, shared multilateral values, and a growing interest in practical cooperation. While our political dialogue is solid, there is clear potential to further deepen economic and sector-specific engagement.
Looking ahead, opportunities are emerging particularly in areas where Finland has globally recognized expertise and Kuwait has strong strategic demand—such as digital solutions, clean technologies, education, healthcare innovation, and smart infrastructure. The coming years offer a chance to move from goodwill to more structured, project-driven cooperation.
2. Kuwait has set ambitious goals for economic diversification. Which sectors do you believe offer the greatest potential for collaboration with Finnish companies?
Kuwait’s diversification agenda prioritizes resilience, sustainability, and knowledge-based growth. In this context, several sectors stand out for cooperation with Finnish partners.
These include renewable energy and energy efficiency, water and waste management, smart cities, health technologies, digital government solutions, and advanced education and training systems. Finnish companies are well positioned to contribute scalable, high-quality solutions that align with Kuwait’s long-term development objectives.

3. From your perspective, what are Kuwait’s priorities in innovation, green transition, and sustainable development, and how could Finnish expertise support these goals?
Kuwait is increasingly focused on innovation that delivers practical impact—improving efficiency, reducing environmental footprint, and strengthening public services. The green transition is approached pragmatically, with emphasis on clean energy integration, sustainable urban development, and responsible resource management.
Finnish expertise is particularly valuable in system-level solutions: combining technology, governance, and human capital. Finnish know-how in digitalization, circular economy models, and clean industrial processes can support Kuwait in translating sustainability goals into measurable outcomes.
4. What key messages would you like Finnish businesses to understand about entering or expanding in the Kuwaiti market?
Kuwait offers a stable, well-capitalized market with long-term investment capacity and a strong commitment to development. For Finnish companies, success lies in patience, partnership, and understanding local priorities.
Building trusted relationships, working with credible local counterparts, and aligning solutions with national development goals are essential. Companies that bring quality, reliability, and a long-term perspective will find Kuwait a receptive and rewarding market.

5. People-to-people and cultural ties often support strong economic relations. Are there upcoming cultural, educational, or exchange initiatives you would like to highlight?
Looking ahead, we see clear scope to deepen cooperation in higher education, applied research, and professional exchange—especially in fields such as education, digital innovation, sustainability, and public sector development. Strengthening these people-to-people links is a priority, as they create the networks and confidence that underpin successful economic and institutional partnerships.
6. As Ambassador, what are your main priorities during your term in Finland, and what impact would you like your work to have on Kuwait–Finland relations?
My priority is to translate strong diplomatic relations into tangible cooperation—especially in trade, innovation, and knowledge exchange. I aim to facilitate meaningful connections between institutions, companies, and experts in both countries.
Ultimately, I would like my term to be remembered for helping move Kuwait–Finland relations toward more structured, forward-looking partnerships that deliver mutual benefit and long-term value.
